New Ship: Cunard's Queen Anne

Queen Anne, the first new Cunard ship in 14 years, recently departed Southampton on her maiden voyage—a seven-night cruise to Lisbon, Portugal. Before she left, we hopped on for a good look around. Here are six things we love about this beautiful new Queen.
In with the new
To misquote Star Trek’s Mr Spock, ‘It’s Cunard Jim, but not as we know it’. Queen Anne has plenty of Cunard favourites, such as the Golden Lion Pub and Britannia Restaurant, and its art deco flourishes still among them. Still, the designers have also been weaving their magic on the ship, opening the interior to let the light in and give it a contemporary look.
Spice of life
We loved Aranya, the new Indian restaurant. Why? It has a mouth-watering menu featuring masala-roasted cauliflower, pot-sealed biryani, and smoked chilli pork belly. And while on the subject of food, the other new restaurants, Sir Samuel’s Steakhouse, Aji Wa for Japanese and Tramonto for Mediterranean, looked pretty fab, too!
All of a quiver
Channel your inner Robin Hood on the only archery range at sea. Very fittingly, it was officially opened by cruise journalist Jane Archer, who you’ll have spotted writing for The Ocean View and is pictured here getting a few tips from Archery GB instructor Ffion Edgeley. There’s plenty more to keep sporty types on their toes, including pickleball, putting, golf and yoga.
In the spotlight
Grab a seat, order a drink, and get ready for an evening of close-up music and entertainment in the Bright Lights Society, an intimate new cocktail and cabaret bar. The name is a nod to Cunard, the first company to put electric lights on a liner, but the dazzling blue décor is most definitely 21st-century. ‘Inspired by our past, designed for our future,’ says Cunard.
Something for everyone
The Pavilion is a lovely conservatory-like space at the top of the ship with a glass roof that opens when it’s warm. It is where you can swim, relax with a favourite book, or watch a film / live band. There’s a bar and grill downstairs, and a Wellness Café on the upper deck serves healthy salad bowls, juices, and veggie dishes. Why would you leave?
The world on your doorstep
Queen Anne is based in Southampton, so you can hop on board without flying. From the UK, she’s cruising to the Canary Islands, the Mediterranean, Norwegian fjords, Iceland, and Scandinavia. Or wait until January 2025 and join her first world cruise—a 107-night westbound jaunt to New Zealand, Australia, and back.
